Question*

If grades, age, finances, work, career prospects etc weren’t an issue, what would you like to be studying?

(Or would you want to study at all?)

* A question posed to me during one of our (many) coffee breaks on the terrace by the dancer. Just thought I’ll put it out there.

  1. Is there some kind of academical career associated with traveling around the world and writing about it?

I’ve always secretly fancied myself a writer; traveling or otherwise.

  2. This post just made me realise how lucky I am.

Wanted to study Social Anthropology since I was about 14-15 and that is exactly what I did. The subject is without a doubt academic true love for me. Nerdy, I know 😉

However, this also means I will probably end up a curmudgeonly and impoverished academic who writes convoluted rubbish no one will ever read. All good because it makes me happy.

    And you?

    • So glad to hear that 🙂 For the longest time, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I spent a year and a half studying something I disliked and I was miserable. Now, I’m studying something I genuinely love. I was advised by countless people not to take it up and that my career prospects after the degree were bleak, so chances of me having the same predicament as you is extremely high. I’ll gripe about the workload, I’ll procrastinate but at the end of the day, I love what I do.

When The Dancer asked me this question, I realized how lucky I was as well 🙂

  3. Luckily, I studied exactly what I want to study. Psychology was fascinating and scientific enough to keep me interested but not too much so (like Physics) to bore me, and Anthropology was well, love at first class, really.

But if I could, I would also like to study painting and writing (though that requires talents I don’t posses) and also marine bio and ecosystem conservation.

  4. Music. Probably not at the age I started studying though, since I hated music at that time (playing it anyway), but yes, something along those lines, with some tech know-how on recording and stuff.

    We’ll never know..

  5. i kind of am and have studied what i have wanted to study. but grades, age, finances, career prospects are biting me in the ass for it! :/ so my advice, sell your soul, go make money. 😛 joking.
